The Next WI Campaign is ...

Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife

The Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife resolution was passed at the 2023 NFWI Annual Meeting with a majority of 84%,

For those of us at the Annual Meeting in Cardiff, the debate was probably one of the best in recent years and we heard pertinent arguments both for and against the resolution. It certainly gave us plenty to think about.

So, what now?

Well, there will be more resources produced, but for now we have an abundance of waterways and streams in Oxfordshire. Why not find out about projects going on around you; we already have the Letcombe Brook Project and the Oxford Rivers Project to name but two.

Would you like to have a designated river bathing area near you?

You can find out more and how to apply on the Surfers Against Sewage’s ‘Wild Water’ website

Are you concerned about sewage release in your local waterway? You can find out about sewage outflows in your area by checking the information on Rivers Trust Sewage Map.

In September, the WI is planning a Week of River Action when WIs will be asked to join with other groups in your local area to "sound the alarm about the ecological state" of our rivers. It will run from 11 - 18 September so mark the date in your diary.

More details will be released nearer the time, along with resources, but you can register your interest for the Week of River Action by emailing the NFWI Public Affairs team on pa@nfwi.org.uk
