About the Event
Come with us to visit Montacute House, a masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design. With its towering walls of glass, glow of ham stone and surrounding garden and parkland, it is a place of beauty and wonder.
Sir Edward Phelps was the visionary force and money behind the creation of this tour-de-force, which was completed in 1601. Built by skilled craftsmen using local ham stone under the instruction of William Arnold, master mason, the house was a statement of wealth, ambition and showmanship.
A beautiful garden surrounds the house which provides a wonderful scent in the summer and an atmospheric backdrop for a winter walk.
We will start our day with refreshments and then enjoy the Elizabethan welcome walk and talk. We will then have timed entry to the house followed by the opportunity to explore at your own pace. We will be making a visit to Clark’s village on the way home.
