About the Event
We are delighted to be welcoming Amy Griffin (DLSLtd,RAL,CEO), Public Engagement Officer, who will tell us all about the Diamond Light Source. Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world and it is located here in Oxfordshire. Its pioneering capabilities are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research. Its pioneering capabilities are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research. During Amy’s talk you will hear about how the particle accelerator accelerates electrons to near the speed of light so that they give off light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, how these bright beams are then directed off into laboratories known as ‘beamlines’, and how scientists use this light to study a vast range of subject matter, from new medicines and treatments for disease to innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology. Questions are encouraged! We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event.
