About the Event
We invite you to join us for what promises to be a very different and informative day. Two thousand years ago, whilst Rome was enjoying all the benefits of indoor plumbing, Britain was languishing far behind and disposing of their “waste” in very unsavoury ways – most often out of the window! In 1858 the Thames in London became little more than an open sewer and on this fascinating trip we will learn what was done to alleviate “The Great Stink”. We meet our Blue Badge Guide for morning coffee and learn about lost rivers, and how Joseph Bazalgelle created one of the most remarkable feats of engineering that has ever been seen. We then walk to Westminster Pier and sail from there along the Thames to Greenwich. (During which time we will take the opportunity of eating our packed lunches (NOT provided)). We meet up again with our coach…
