Wednesday 25 March 2020
Oxford Town Hall, St Aldates OX1 1BX
2020 sees us return to the magnificent Town Hall in the centre of Oxford. As well as presentation of the Annual Accounts and updates on Oxfordshire WI news, we shall hear from the current High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Lady Jay of Ewelme. Sylvia Jay was a senior UK civil servant then entering the private sector in 2001, and amongst other posts became Vice Chairman, then Chairman of L’Oréal UK from 2005 to 2013. Lady Jay continues to serve on other Boards with her voluntary work mainly concerning prison reform and The Pilgrim Trust, which she chaired from 2005 for ten years.
Our afternoon speaker, pictured on the cover of this month’s News & Views, is Tom Heap. Tom is a freelance television & radio reporter and presenter, probably best known for BBC Countryfile and Radio 4’s Costing the Earth. In 2003 he led a broadcasting team to cover the 50th anniversary of the ascent of Mount Everest with regular broadcasts and hosted a live 30 minute programme from base camp.
Don’t forget to pop a £1 into an envelope (with your name and WI on the front) to enter the Denman Dip for a chance to win a course at Denman. There’ll also be time to look at the display of work from the entrants for the Home & Garden scarf competition.
What about lunch? - bring your own or pop into Oxford for lunch and a spot of shopping before the afternoon session.
Cost: Observer £15 - Members only. (Details of WI Delegate ticket with each WI Secretary) Closing date: Friday 6 March
