Chairman's Letter - December 2023

A warm welcome to the double issue of Oxfordshire Inspires. Well, we have made it! I can now mention Christmas. I always feel Christmas is here when I have purchased my ticket for the Combined Arts Christmas event. I know some of you are starting the celebrations by enjoying Cruising into Christmas. However, you spend this time of year – I wish you all a wonderful time – it can be a time for reflection over the past year as well as a time to look forward. Now looking forward …

EXCITING NEWS ABOUT THE AFTERNOON SPEAKER AT THE 2024 ANNUAL MEETING

I am delighted to announce that our guest speaker for the afternoon of the Annual Meeting 2024 will be Mia Pryke, a finalist in the 2023 Great British Sewing Bee.

As the youngest sewer amongst the contestants, Mia started sewing during lockdown after her mum bought a sewing machine. What started as a hobby became an idea that she would love to sew professionally. Following her success in the Sewing Bee, Mia is now at UAL - University of the Arts, London, studying Costume for Theatre and Screen.

We are really looking forward to welcoming her to Worton Hall next March.

I also hope you are purchasing tickets for the quilt raffle!

In the meantime, enjoy this festive season and all the festivities that your WI has to offer. Whilst it is seen as a time for glitz, glamour and baubles, I know it is a mixed season for some. But the WI is never far away. My own WI doesn’t meet in January, but we will be meeting up socially so that we can keep in touch – always so nice to start the new year with a WI gathering. Please also note the Christmas Closure period for the Office as the office team will be taking a well-earned break.

Wishing you season’s greetings and a very peaceful new year.

My love and best wishes.

Tracy
