About the WI
-
The WI is the largest women’s organisation in the UK, and in our inspiring history we have consistently championed the education and well-being of women.
-
Becoming a member of the WI offers you the chance to join a group where you can take from it what appeals to you most. Whatever your reason for joining, the WI offers all kinds of opportunities to all kinds of women. For some it’s a chance to meet people and catch up with friends. For others, it’s a way to learn new skills and campaign on issues that affect the wider community.
-
For over 100 years, the WI movement has been instrumental in achieving positive change for women and for society, campaigning on a range of issues from modern slavery to climate change, mental health, and violence against women.
-
Being a member of a local WI means being part of the WI as an organisation. Every WI belongs to a regional office. Oxfordshire is run by an elected board of volunteer members, the Federation Trustees and employed staff. The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) is responsible for the organisation as a whole.
-
With 116 WIs across Oxfordshire, there’s bound to be one near you. Each WI has its own personality that reflects their members. Why not go along as a visitor to several local WIs to find the one that best suits you?
